Fedral College of Education Zaria : Admission Requirment For Both Pre-Nce, Nce -Part Time,Nce and Bed
Applications are made on prescribed forms for the various programmes in the College. Application for NCE Programme is made on JAMB Polytechnics and Colleges of Education Matriculation Form (MPCE). Call for the application is done through JAMB. And candidates are expected to sit for the selection examination on a specified date announced by JAMB. Successful Candidates are communicated on their success and admission.
The Pre-NCE and Remedial Programmes have a separate application form. This is sold in the College at a fixed fee prescribed by the Academic Board. Candidates are expected to buy, fill and submit the completed Form to the pre-NCE and Remedial Office of the College. Names of successful candidates are usually placed on the College notice board.
Application for the Part-time programme is also made on a prescribed application form at a fee decided by the Academic Board. Completed forms are sent to the Part-time Programme secretariat. A list of successful candidates is placed on the College notice board.
Candidates who are admitted into the NCE Regular will be required to pay for JAMB Regularization and their Admission would be regularized by JAMB.
NIGERIA CERTIFICATE IN EDUCATION (NCE)
  1. GCE O/L or SSCE with passes in at least five (5) subjects in two sittings, four of which must be at credit level.
  2. Grade II Teachers Certificate (TC II) /Higher Islamic Studies (SISC) with credit or merit in three subjects, two of which must be relevant to the course the candidate wishes to study.
  3. R.S.A or City and Guilds Intermediate Certificate or the Federal Craft Training Certificate.
  4. Associate Certificate in Education awarded by an approved institution in Nigeria or abroad.
  5. Credits in English and/or Mathematics may be required in some courses.
  6. Successful candidates in the Pre-NCE, (Languages or Sciences), final examination organized by an accredited body, would also be qualified for admission.
  7. The College may, in addition to all of the above, administer its own qualifying elimination tests and/or interviews for some courses, e.g. Physical and Health
NCE BY CORRESPONDENCE (NCE CC)
To be admitted into the NCE by Correspondence programme, a candidate must have any of the following:
  1. Teachers' Grade II (TC II) with credits/merits in three subjects one of which must be in the subject the candidate wishes to study.
  2. GCE (O/L) or SSCE with passes in five subjects in one sitting, three of which must be at credit level.
  3. GCE (O/L) or SSCE with passes in five subjects, four of which must be at credit level in two sittings.
  4. Grade II pass certificate with minimum of five years post qualification teaching experience.
PRE-NCE PROGRAMME
  1. SC/GCE (O/L) with four passes at sitting or five (5) Passes at two sittings including English Language and Mathematics and passes in related subjects.
  2. TC II certificate with passes.
  3. Other relevant or equivalent qualification with four (4) passes at a sitting or five (5) passes at two sittings and passes in related subjects i.e. City and Guilds, Federal Craft Certificate, etc.
REMEDIAL PROGRAMME
  1. GCE (O/L) or SSCE with two (2) passes.
  2. TC II with at least two (2) passes.
  3. Federal Craft Certificate or City and Guilds Certificate with at least two (2) passes.
PART-TIME PROGRAMME
  1. There are two part-time Programmes. They are the Postgraduate Diploma in Education (PGDE) and Certificate Courses.
  2. Entry requirements for PGDE is a minimum of first degree or HND.
  3. Entry requirements for the Certificate Courses is minimum of secondary school leaving certificate.
UNDERGRADUATE PROGRAMME
The Degree Programme began in the College in 1982 with the first set of students graduating in 1984. At that time, the course duration was two years. Since then there have been several changes in both the admission requirements and duration.
Admission Requirements
NCE certificate with credit/merit in the relevant subject area of study and Education.
In addition, a credit in Mathematics and at least a pass at O' Level are required for Science Courses, while Arts courses require a credit in English at O' Level (For details on Admission Requirements for the Undergraduate Programme, see relevant appendix).
DEFERMENT OF ADMISSION:
Admission is not deferrable. However, after completion of registration in the College, a newly registered student may defer a semester or course(s) by a written application to the Academic Secretary through the concerned Heads of Departments. Such Deferment is valid only through a written approval by the Academic Secretary
